This is my 32 team draft evaluation and 2008 season predictions.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
1st round pick - Jake long OT
The Dolphins are in the rebuilding process.. I don't expect much from them this season. However I do think they will do better then they did last year (its hard to do worse then 1 and 15).They will still probably finish last in the division. But what more can you expect.
I got the dolphins finishing 5 and 11 and still not knowing who their lead signal caller is..
ST LOUIS RAMS
1st round pick - Chris long DE
The Rams are not a bad team. I was really surprised at how bad they were last year..they have one of the best running backs in the league in Steven Jackson and a nice quarterback reciever tandem in Tory Holt and Mark Bulger.. and i see chris long making a difference right away.. This year I think they right the ship... Not a Super bowl or anything like that.. but i got them above .500 at 9-7 and a possible wild card...
ATLANTA FALCONS
1st round pick - Matt Ryan QB
The Atlanta Falcons...................... ... What can I say about the Falcons.......... If Matt Ryan gets to play right away and plays the whole season I think he can learn a lot... I think this guy can be a pro bowl QB in the NFL... but as for a turn around? Micheal Vick will be out of jail well before they right the ship. i got them at 6 and 10....
OAKLAND RAIDERS
1st round pick - Darren McFadden RB
WOW... the Raiders did a lot this off season..... They signed a boat load of guys... Most notably Gibril Wilson and Jevon Walker... but they are only two guys in a laundry list of signings... and they drafted McFadden...I think RUN DMC is going to be an explosive running back in the NFL.. I may be going out on a limb here but if jevon walker can stay healthy and they can get production for jamarcus russel (im guessing he will start) i think the raiders can pick up a winning season.... all that considered i got them at 10 and 6 with a playoff visit....... ( its a stretch i know)
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
1st round pick - Glenn Dorsey DT
The Cheifs had an amazing draft.. and i love Dwayne Bowe catching the ball... but i don't see them doing much this season... i got them at 7 and 9....
NEW YORK JETS
1st round pick - Vernon Gholston DE
the Jets spent some money in the off season too.... They brought in one of the best offensive lineman in the game in Alan Faneca... but you gotta ask who he is going to be blocking for. Chad Pennington? enough said..... 6 and 10...
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
1st round pick - Sedrick Ellis DT
The saints made the trade up in the draft to take Ellis... they felt that they needed a run stopper and they got one... I think that it is the secondary that is holding them back....But that offense can still be explosive... i got them at 8 and 8...
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
1st round pick - Derrick Harvey DE
The jaguars were lacking depth at receiver.. they went out and got Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson... so they took care of some of that problem... and David Garrard is out standing.. he protects the ball and makes things happen... i got them and 11 and 6 .. ( and still only getting a wild card........ crazy isn't it?)
CINCINNATI BENGALS
1st round pick - Kieth Rivers OLB
The Bengals certainly needed a line backer... and they got a good one in rivers... But right now Cincinnati is in shambles... All the Chad Johnson antics and everything.... plus the secondary is terrible.... i got them at 5 and 11....
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
1st round pick - Jerod Mayo OLB
The patriots are trying to get younger at linebacker.. as well they should be.... they lost a lot of key guys to free agency... but they kept the one they wanted most... Randy Moss... And they still got Tom Brady mind you.... this defense could give up a touchdown every drive of the season and the team would still finish 8 and 8.... When all is said and done i got them at 13 and 3...
BUFFALO BILLS
1st round pick - Leodis McKelvin CB
The Bills the Bills the Bills........ in all seriousness i think the bills could do pretty good this season...The made a couple key additions on defense and if they figure out whether their QB is Lossman or Edwards and get production from who ever it is i think they can finish at 9 and 7... maybe better...
DENVER BRONCOS
1st round pick Ryan Clady OT
The broncos brought in a nice offensive lineman to help protect Jay Cutler in the pocket.. I think with the right protection this guy can really excel at the quarterback position.. and Brandon Marshall has really stepped his game up... last season was the Broncos first losing season since 1999... Don't expect them to do it back to back seasons... 10 and 6..
CAROLINA PANTHERS
1st round picks - Jonathon Stewart RB - Jeff Otah OT
The panthers still do not have much of a plan at the quarter back position... they have all the right tools to the point were they could just bring in someone that is not going to turn the ball over and they could be ok...Maybe Jake Delhomme can do something this season... i doubt it though... i got them at 7 and 9...
CHICAGO BEARS
1st round pick - Chris Williams OT
The Bears took an OT... I can understand that.... But what they need to do is SCRAP THE REX GROSSMAN PROJECT!!!! Its not working out lovey....Not to mention they lost Muhamed and Berrian..... Chalk it up.... 5 and 11... ( they will be lucky to get that!)
DETROIT LIONS
1st round pick - Gosder Cherilus OT
Their first round pick makes sense.... John Kitna was on his back more then any other quarter back in the league... Hopefully they learned from last year and will start running the ball.... one can only hope.. no 10 win season for ya this year either Kitna! ...... 6 and 10...
ARIZONA CARDINALS
1st round pick - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB
The Cardinals has so much fire power on offense, it is an absolute mystery to me how they end up in the basement of the NFC... The seahawks are a solid team.. But honestly they win that division by default every year... if cromartie pans out and gives that defense some help i think they can make a run and maybe win that divison... 10 and 6..
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Did not pick in the 1st round
2nd round pick - Tyrell Johnson S
The Vikings are a solid season from Travaris Jackson away from a playoff run.... Unfortunately I dont see them getting it..... But that defensive line and run production from Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson will get them to 8 and 8....
BALTIMORE RAVENS
1st round pick - Joe Flacco QB
Matt Ryan did not fall to the ravens at number 8.. So they got out of there and traded back.. Smart move... They ended up getting their QB plus a couple extra picks... I think Joe Flacco brings a lot to this offense... His arm strength will allow them to stretch the field and wear defenses out... Thats if he produces at the next level (which I think he will). Their defense is still above par... They might be able to get them a winning season... But i doubt it... I got them at 8 and 8....
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Did not pick in the 1st round
2nd round pick - Trevor Laws DT - Desean Jackson WR
My Philadelphia Eagles.... Its hard not to be impartial here but i will try... Desean Jackson will help the Eagles out a whole lot on kick off returns.. That problem plagued them last season.. With his speed I think he can give them that Wes Welker type threat at the number 3 wide receiver position.. He is not the Randy Moss that everyone wanted.. But he will certainly help the team out. Donavon McNabb was playing great towards the end of last season. The Eagles are hoping he is now back at 100% from that knee injury 2 seasons ago.. With a healthy McNabb and how good that defense is looking i think the Eagles are a serious threat in the NFC.. I got them at 11 and 5... ( not just because they are my home team... I really believe it..)
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
1st round pick - Aqib Talib CB
The Buccs were getting old at CB... They helped that out a lot with their round 1 pick...I still like this defense a lot... And i love the way John Gruden runs the West coast offense...Jeff Garcia is still a great QB too, and he protects the ball.... They brought in an aging Warrick Dunn to help out at running back. They are deep at that position... They will contend in their division again this year.... 10 and 6..
WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Did not pick in the 1st round
2nd round pick - Devin Thomas WR , Fred Davis TE , Malcolm kelly WR
The Redskins really cleaned up in the second round. They got two receivers who really have a shot at being special in the NFL.. If Jason Cambell can stay healthy all season I think they will do good this season (I don't see Todd Collins leading them any where this season).... I got them at 9 and 7
DALLAS COWBOYS
1st round picks- Felix Jones RB - Mike Jenkins CB
Dallas really addressed two needs , with the loss of Julius Jones Marion Barber is looking at his first full season as a starter so they took Felix Jones to spell Barber a little bit. Mike Jenkins will probably play as the Nickel back.. and if Pacman Jones can get reinstated and stay out of trouble they could have a good secondary.. The NFC east is going to be good all around this season... i got Dallas at 12 and 4...
TENNESSEE TITANS
1st round pick - Chris Johnson - RB
The Titans grabbed a running back to spell Lendale White.. It gives them a nice 1 - 2 punch.. But I still don't believe that there is enough depth at the receiver position to take them any place.. Vince Young can not do it all by himself... I got them at 7 and 9...
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
1st round pick - Antoine Cason CB
The chargers were injury plagued in the playoffs last season.... Phillip rivers had surgery this off season... LT was hurt and didn't play in the AFC championship game.. and Antonio gates struggled when he was in due to that toe injury.... That being said, if everyone can get healthy and stay healthy the Chargers will be fierce this season.... 11 and 5
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
1st round pick - Kentwan Balmer DT
The Niners defense just keeps getting better and better... That defensive line has the ability to mall people... Its the offense that is the problem... They have not got the production they wanted out of Vernon Davis and they are not getting anything from the QB spot..... They need to get that offense straightened out... I got them at 6 and 10...
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
1st round pick - Lawrence Jackson DE
Seattle made that defensive line even scarier with their round 1 pick... They cause a lot of trouble for opposing QB'S... They made a big cut in letting go Shaun Alexander... But rightfully so... He was not producing... They also brought in Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett.. With Matt Hasselbeck playing well and given the division they are in i got the seahawks at their average 10 and 6 record...
GREEN BAY PACKERS
Did not pick in the 1st round
2nd round pick - Jordy Nelson WR
Anybody smell a quarterback controversy in Wisconsin? I DO! I think that the Packers will struggle at the position and at the end of the season Brian Brohm will be given the reigns to see what he can do with it... 7 and 9...
CLEVELAND BROWNS
Did not pick in round 1, 2, or 3..
4th round pick - Beau Bell ILB
The Browns were a pleasant surprise last season.. I didn't see that coming thats for sure... given their new found QB , newly acquired receiver (Donte Stallworth), already explosive offense, new found confidence, and the steelers ridiculously hard schedule I am going to say that the Browns WIN THE DIVISION ! Cleveland will love that one.... 11 and 6 ..
PITTSBURGH STEELERS
1st round pick - Rashard Mendenhall RB
The Steelers got a steal with Mendenhall falling to number 23... He will compliment Willie Parker nicely.. Limas Sweed was a steel too... But as i said, there schedule is ROUGH! They struggled last year against teams above .500.... and most of the teams they will be seeing will be around or above .500... Not to mention the cleveland browns breathing down their neck... They can still win a fist full of games.... But no playoffs this year big ben.... you struggle against teams .500 and above.... you end up .500 or below... i got them at 8 and 8.....
HOUSTON TEXANS
1st round pick - Duane Brown OT
The Texans were also a nice surprise last season.... 8 and 8 is not bad for an AFC team.... Too bad they will not do better this season.... the division is just too tough.... i got them at 7 and 9.... Back to the good old Texan ways....
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
Did not pick in the 1st round
2nd round pick - Mike Pollak OC
Peyton manning is amazing... Marvin Harrison will be healthy and productive.. Reggie Wayne is amazing... Joseph addai is a beast.... Bob Sanders is a freak of nature.............need i say more? 12 and 4
NEW YORK GIANTS (2007 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS)
1st round pick - Kenny Phillips S
OK... people are not going to like this one.... The New York Football Giants were the biggest fluke in National Football League history last season... I am sorry but that is what I believe... The run was improbable and fueled by I don't know what... There will be no repeat... I don't even think they will make the playoffs.... They lost a lot of key guys , kavika mitchell , gibrill wislon, micheal strahan might reitire... i just dont see it happening... i got them at 7 and 9...
