NFL Week 13 Recap – Division Matchups
The following is a recap of games played between teams from the same division
St. Louis Rams 16, San Francisco 49ers 13
After taking the Niners to overtime in their last meeting, the Rams did the same this weekend but took it one step further to victory. Hopefully Jim Harbaugh is wondering if he did his team chemistry wrong by keeping Alex Smith on the bench after he missed one game due to a concussion. Next week will tell that tale, but in the meantime, the Rams’ offensively and defensively balanced performance shows that they are indeed a rising young team.
Houston Texans 24, Tennesee Titans 10
The Texans clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Titans. Arian Foster was stopped up for the most part, but scored a rushing touchdown as Matt Schaub chipped in 2 through the air. Jake Locker was intercepted 3 times (lost two fumbles) and sacked 6 times showing that the pressure was on all night. It seems the vaunted Titans offensive line from a few years ago needs to be rebuilt for the team to have more success in the future.
Green Bay Packers 23, Minnesota Vikings 14
Minnesota has lost two and now is in danger of falling behind in the wildcard race. Adrian Peterson keeps doing his part (210 yards, 1 TD) and then some; Christian Ponder (41.9 passer rating) and the rest of the team need to pick up their game if they want the season to end well. The Packers got a balanced output from their offense as Aaron Rodgers spread the ball out efficiently and the running game added 152 yards towards the win.
New England Patriots 23, Miami Dolphins 16
The Patriots ensured they would be making yet another trip to the playoffs while sealing Miami’s fate that they would not be. Wes Welker had 103 yards receiving which included a 7 yard TD. Aaron Hernandez filled in well for the injured Rob Gronkowski. At 5-7, the Dolphins wild card chances are very slim, but they can hold their heads hi after overachieving for most of this season.
Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Baltimore Ravens 20
The Steelers, still without injured Ben Roethisberger, surprised the Ravens with a win in Baltimore. The Ravens carried a 20-13 lead into the 4th quarter but couldn’t hang on as Charlie Batch put in a much better performance for Pittsburgh. He outpaced Joe Flacco and led the offense to victory. Heath Miller caught 5 passes for 97 yards and the crucial touchdown in the 4th. Flacco’s inefficiency doomed the Ravens offense as only 8 of 20 passes reached his wideouts Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith.
Dallas Cowboys 38, Philadelphia Eagles 33
This big win for Dallas in Philly takes them a step closer to a playoff berth. They need a 21 point 4th quarter to get past an Eagles team that showed a lot of heart and pride in their lost season. Kansas State rookie Bryce Brown, filling in for the injured LeSean McCoy, gained 169 yards for a 7 yard average and 2 touchdowns. Nick Foles played better in place of Mike Vick and posted 251 yards and a touchdown on 64.7% passing. DeMarco Murray returned from a high ankle sprain and gained a respectable 83 yards and a touchdown for Dallas. But it was Tony Romo’s improvisation and vision down the field that won the game for Dallas. He turned in stellar number: 303 yards, 81.5% completion rate and 3 touchdowns.
