NFL Week 14 Recap – Division Matchups
The following is a recap of games played between teams from the same division
Carolina Panthers 30, Atlanta Falcons 20
The Panthers defended their home field in style, beating division rival Atlanta Falcons who came into Charlotte with only one loss. Cam Newton was the main attraction for the home fans with an impressive output of 287 yards passing with 2 TDs and 116 yards rushing with 1 TD. The win is a much needed salve for a team that has underachieved on offense and defense for most of the season.
Minnesota Vikings 21, Chicago Bears 14
This game was a case of who wanted it more and the Vikings came out on top at home. Jay Cutler was lackadaisical with the ball all game and threw 2 interceptions with only a 50% completion rate. His passiveness eventually got him knocked out of the game and although Jason Campbell played well, he wasn’t able to mount a comeback. Without much help from Christian Ponder (53.8 QB rating), Adrian Peterson yet again took the team on his back and led them to victory with 154 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Indianapolis Colts 27, Tennessee Titans 23
The Colts mounted the slowest fourth quarter comeback ever as they were able to hold off the Titans offense while their own offense provided two field goals that sealed the victory. Jake Locker and Kenny Britt were really gelling (8 of 9 targets with 143 yards) but Tennessee was unable to answer in the 4th quarter. The Colts go to 9-4 and are in great shape for a wild card spot and even the division title is not out of the realm of possibility.
Seattle Seahawks 58, Arizona Cardinals 0
As if losing their ninth game in a row wasn’t already unbearable for the Cardinals, the Seahawks blanked them and ran up 58 points in a dominating performance usually reserved for NCAA football. John Skelton was dismal in his return to the lineup with 4 interceptions and a 18.2 quarterback rating. Marshawn Lynch went for 128 yards on only 11 carries and added 3 touchdowns. Even Utah State rookie Robert Turbin turned on “Beast Mode” and tallied 108 yards on 20 carries himself. It was the kind of output that will put the rest of the league on notice as Seattle rumbles into the playoff picture.
Green Bay Packers 27, Detroit Lions 20
The young Lions got up on the Packers 14-0 in the 2nd quarter but the Packers came back steadily throughout the game to defend Lambeau and hand Detroit their 5 straight loss. The Lions defensive line continued to show no class as Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh both needlessly and cowardly roughed up Aaron Rodgers. It wasn’t the prettiest win for the Packers, but it showed their grit and teamwork to find a way to win when Rodgers isn’t throwing 300 plus yards in the air.
